The love of the Maharani
The travellers knew that the Indian Maharadsha’s palaces could be enchanting. What they did not know, however, was that there was another, distinctly different type of magic at work in the palaces.
“But these are just simple facts and do not tell us much about Gayatri Devi and the time she spent in Rambagh Palace. Figures and dates do not reveal anything about the costume parties, tiger hunts and gala dinners that were staged here. And they tell us even less about the love that must have prevailed – the love between Man Singh and the Maharani. Only Rambagh Palace can enlighten us, where every hallway, every room and every suite with their peacock mosaics, inlays, chandeliers, four-poster beds and velvet couches were clearly nothing but a declaration of Maharadsha’s love to the Maharani.”
